Evergreen Nursing Services has been recognized by Eldercare Review APAC Magazine as “Top Senior Home Care Service in Canada - 2025,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Eldercare Review APAC research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Tara Trethewey, Executive Director.
Tara Trethewey, Executive DirectorClient satisfaction and trust are the ultimate measures of excellence in home-based senior care. In Vancouver, Evergreen Nursing Services bags the badge of trust through experience, professionalism and a focus on personalized elder care.
Founded in 2001, Evergreen is a family-owned, women-led business run by world-class healthcare professionals dedicated to augmenting the Canadian healthcare system. Over the years, it has become a trusted ally for countless families, including Michael’s.
He first contacted Evergreen when his mother Eve’s health began to decline. She lived alone and needed help with daily tasks.
A representative at Evergreen listened to his concerns, reassuring, asking the right questions and explaining care options. Within days, a registered nurse stepped through Eve’s front door. She assessed the immediate needs, noting every nuance of her changing abilities. The nurse then crafted a care plan prioritizing Eve’s health, comfort and dignity.
At first, care was light—just 12 hours a week for errands, housekeeping and morning routines. But as Eve’s needs grew, Evergreen adapted, always providing enough support to keep her safe while preserving her independence.
“We remain in constant contact with the family members and the client as we observe their changes,” says Tara Trethewey, executive director. “This approach allows to scale the amount of home support as needed to keep clients in their own homes for the entire journey.”
As Eve entered the final stage of life, Evergreen transitioned to 24-hour nursing support through a publicly funded program in Vancouver. She never had a hospital stay or long-term care, spending her final days comfortably at home, surrounded by family.
Every Evergreen client receives the same high-quality, personalized care that Eve did, starting with a thorough intake process. The team listens to their concerns, assesses their needs and creates a customized care plan. A registered nurse then conducts an in-home visit to match clients with care aides who possess compatible skills and personalities.
Evergreen’s care aides constitute certified professionals or internationally trained, registered nurses. The company also employs licensed practical nurses and registered nurses for palliative care with full accreditation and relevant experience. In-house occupational therapists are also present to assess clients’ needs and recommend in-home equipment and modifications to support aging in place.
The staff is technologically empowered as well. Caregivers use Alaya Care, a software system to update real-time progress notes via a smartphone application. The director of nursing reviews them daily to address any physical or cognitive changes. If an incident occurs, Evergreen follows a strict incident reporting protocol, making recommendations to prevent recurrence and enhance safety.
Evergreen’s service excellence has consecutively won the consumer choice award for best home healthcare company in Vancouver for the past 20 years. Most of its clients come through word-of-mouth referrals, a testament to the trust and satisfaction built over decades.
The key to this success lies in the company’s efforts to keep its interactions as human as possible. It ensures every call goes through human response, rather than an automated one. Dedicated care coordinators build personal relationships with families, respond quickly to concerns and proactively address potential risks.
Perhaps that’s why every family served by Evergreen is keen to sharing their story – a story where their loved ones received the right palliative care, comfort, dignity, peace and assurance from qualified and capable hands.
